Newport Classic Yacht Regatta 2026

Date: 5 September 2026 – 6 September 2026

Location: International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS), Newport, United States

Organizer: International Yacht Restoration School

The Newport Classic Yacht Regatta, presented by IYRS, has been sailed off Newport, Rhode Island since 1980, which makes it one of the longest-running classic yacht events in the United States. The 2026 edition, the forty-seventh, is scheduled for 5 and 6 September, with the Ida Lewis Yacht Club race committee managing the courses and a CRF rating certificate required to enter. The fleet is broad: traditional classics, spirit-of-tradition designs, schooners and 12 Metres have all raced here in recent years, and Newport's summer southwesterly usually delivers proper racing conditions. IYRS, the boatbuilding and restoration school on Thames Street, presents the event, which fits, since some of the boats on the start line were restored by hands trained there. The regatta supports the school's programs. If you want to see working examples of American yacht design history under sail, this weekend is the one.
