The Goldman Cup is the signature race of the Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Foundation, which has run adaptive sailing on Chicago's Burnham Harbor since 1990 in partnership with the Chicago Park District. The trophy remembers Judd Goldman (1914-1989), a Chicago sailor who raced successfully despite a physical disability and whose family created the foundation in his name. The 2026 edition is the thirty-sixth annual Goldman Cup, sailed on Sunday 30 August from 10:00 as the fourth event in the foundation's summer race series on Lake Michigan. Competitors are sailors with disabilities who train through the foundation's racing program, which builds from learn-to-sail classes up to regatta-level competition. The foundation's wider program reaches more than a thousand participants a year, and the Goldman Cup is where a season of training shows. Racing happens within sight of the downtown skyline, a decent backdrop for a late-season decider.
