Lake of the Ozarks Shootout 2026

Date: 29 August 2026

Location: Captain Ron at Lake of the Ozarks, Sunrise Beach, United States

Organizer: Lake of the Ozarks Shootout

The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is billed as the largest unsanctioned boat race in the United States, and the format is simple and a bit mad: one boat at a time on a straight course off Sunrise Beach, Missouri, chasing the highest radar-recorded speed. The 2026 event is the thirty-eighth annual running, with the main race days on 29 and 30 August and a week of parties, poker runs and gatherings around the lake beforehand. Top boats have exceeded 200 mph over the years, though the field ranges from full-on race hulls down to modified pleasure boats, all classed so owners compete against comparable machines. The event carries the Lt. Governor's Cup title and raises money for local charities, with tens of thousands of spectators lining the water and the shore. It is powerboating, not sailing, but as lake spectacles in the American Midwest go, nothing else comes close.
