Den Oever is a fishing village on the former island of Wieringen, at the point where the Afsluitdijk meets the North Holland mainland, and its Flora & Visserijdagen run from 28 to 31 August 2026. The festival is an odd but well-loved pairing of flowers and fish. There is a flower show, a traditional market and funfair, and a harbour programme centred on fishing: a large display table with the many species landed here, a fresh fish market, demonstrations of old crafts and a review of the fleet. Children get bouncy castles, games and obstacle courses. Boat trips run from the harbour out onto the Wadden Sea during the weekend, which is a good way to see this UNESCO-listed tidal landscape from the water. The event has deep roots in the village and draws visitors from across the Kop van Noord-Holland over its four days.
