The Opera House Cup was the first all-wooden, single-hulled classic yacht regatta on the US East Coast, and it remains one of the best gatherings of classic boats in the country. The 54th edition sails on Sunday 16 August 2026 as the finale of Nantucket Race Week. Wooden classics with a minimum length of 24 feet race in Nantucket Sound, and the fleet over the years has included America's Cup winners Intrepid, Weatherly and Columbia alongside yachts like Ticonderoga, Brilliant and When and If. New for 2026 is the Lighthouse Trophy, a perpetual prize for the winner of the Invitational Division. The day ends with a large awards party, and proceeds support Nantucket Community Sailing, which runs youth and community programmes on the island. If you are anywhere near Nantucket in mid-August, watching this fleet come down the sound under sail is worth the trip.
