National Lighthouse Weekend 2026

Date: 1 August 2026

Location: National Lighthouse Museum, Staten Island, United States

Organizer: National Lighthouse Museum

National Lighthouse Weekend is the National Lighthouse Museum's annual August event in St. George, Staten Island, a short walk from the Staten Island Ferry terminal. The museum sits at Lighthouse Point, the site of the former United States Lighthouse Service depot, and covers the history and technology of American lighthouses year round. The weekend's centrepiece is the museum's signature boat tour of New York Harbor, narrated by museum historian Wade Goria, which passes nine lighthouses that guide vessels from the Atlantic into the Lower Bay, among them Coney Island Lighthouse, West Bank and Romer Shoal, Sandy Hook Light and the Twin Lights of Navesink. Museum admission is free for boat tour ticket holders, and the weekend also brings lectures and keeper-history programming. If you have only seen New York from the Manhattan side, a couple of hours on the water looking at its working navigation lights is a good corrective.
