The HCRA State Championship Regatta is the finale of Hawaii's outrigger canoe season, run by the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association on the first Saturday of August every year. In 2026 it falls on 1 August at Ke'ehi Lagoon on Oahu. Clubs cannot simply enter: crews qualify through points earned during the summer regatta season in their island association, with OHCRA on Oahu, the Maui County association, Kauai's Garden Island association and Moku O Hawaii on the Big Island each sending their top crews to race head-to-head for state titles. The racing covers men's and women's divisions from 12-and-under keiki through Masters 65+, over distances from a quarter mile to a mile and a half, so a single day runs to dozens of races. Watching from the public shoreline costs nothing. This is the sport at its most rooted, six-person koa and fiberglass canoes, whole clubs camped on the beach, every island represented.
