Magnetic Island Race Week 2026

Magnetic Island Race Week closes out the Queensland season of sailing each winter, following on from the Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island regattas. Hosted by Townsville Yacht Club since 2008, the week brings racing and cruising divisions to Cleveland Bay off Magnetic Island, inside the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, with the fleet based at Nelly Bay. Courses mix windward-leewards with island and passage races, and the shoreside programme runs nightly. The 2026 edition, the nineteenth, runs from 27 August to 2 September. Demand is fierce: online entries for 2026 sold out within eight minutes of opening in March, with a waiting list held by the club.
