Altona Yacht Club

Location: Altona Foreshore, Seaholme, VIC, Australia

Altona Yacht Club dates from March 1953, when local residents formed a club to organise the young sailors already racing off Altona beach. The clubhouse stands at 10 Beach Street, Seaholme, on the north-western shore of Port Phillip in Melbourne's west. Off-the-beach dinghies and catamarans dominate the fleet, among them Lasers, Tasars, Sabres, Pacers, Impulses and Mosquitos. Club racing starts at 2pm on Saturday afternoons, and training for adults and children fills Saturday mornings. Tackers courses introduce children aged 7 to 12 to the sport, and adult learn-to-sail classes run regularly. Facilities include a canteen, bar, race control tower, boat storage and a concrete ramp that allows safe launching in all wind directions.
