Falmouth Oyster Festival

Date: 8 October 2026 – 11 October 2026

Location: England

Organizer: Falmouth Oyster Festival Ltd

The Falmouth Oyster Festival celebrates the start of the oyster dredging season in Cornwall, which runs from October to March. The 2026 festival is set for October 8 to 11, based around Event Square and the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth. The native Fal oyster is the point of the whole thing. The Port of Truro fishery prohibits engines, so oystermen still work the estuary under sail and hand-pulled dredge from gaff-rigged working boats of 22 to 30 feet, thought to be the only oyster fishery in Europe still required to fish this way. The festival puts those oysters on plates a short walk from where they were landed, alongside cookery demonstrations, Cornish seafood stalls and live entertainment. It is a food festival first, but one anchored to a genuinely rare piece of working maritime tradition, and that is what separates it from the usual seaside food event.
