Guernsey Sailing Trust Assistant Instructor Course

Date: 24 August 2026

Location: Guernsey Sailing Trust, St. Peter Port, United Kingdom

Organizer: Guernsey Sailing Trust

The Guernsey Sailing Trust is a charity and RYA Recognised Training Centre based in St Peter Port, and this Assistant Instructor course is its route into teaching for young sailors. The late-August 2026 running goes from 24 to 27 August, four days of 9am to 4pm, priced at 125 pounds. Candidates must have finished year 8 at school and hold an RYA advanced module, ideally Seamanship Skills. The syllabus is around twenty hours of teaching principles, centre procedures and equipment handling, with an assessment of each candidate's ability to teach beginners. A qualified Assistant Instructor can teach up to Sailing Scheme Level 2 or Youth Stage 3, always under the direct supervision of a Senior Instructor, because the award does not include first aid or powerboat certificates. The certificate is centre specific and valid for five years. For teenagers who grew up sailing with the Trust, this is the obvious next step.
