Passantenhaven De 4 Elementen

Location: Gerkesklooster-Stroobos, Netherlands

The village harbour of Gerkesklooster-Stroobos lies at the transition from the Prinses Margrietkanaal to the Van Starkenborghkanaal, on the main commercial route between Friesland and Groningen. It is kept by De 4 Elementen, a care estate whose supervised living and working programme has young adults with autism running the harbour, which gives the place an unusual and friendly character. There are 15 visitor berths, all with electricity, and drinking water can be taken on. A heated toilet building stands on the grounds, and a water sports shop and fuel station are close by. The estate looks out over open Frisian farmland, and Groningen and Leeuwarden are both within a day's cruise.
