Yngling Worlds in Bergen

The Yngling Open World Championship 2026 is sailed from Askøy, the island just across the fjord from Bergen on Norway's west coast, from 1 to 8 August. Hosting by Askøy Yacht Club brings the class back to its home country: the Yngling, a 6.35-metre three-person keelboat, was designed by Norwegian Jan Herman Linge in 1967 as a junior sibling to his Soling, and it later spent two Olympic cycles as the women's keelboat. Today it survives as a strong one-design class in northern and central Europe, with active fleets in Norway, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands, and its Worlds rotate through those countries under the International Yngling Association. Racing off Askøy means fjord sailing with shifty mountain-influenced breeze, which rewards crews who keep their heads out of the boat. A handful of refurbished charter boats are being prepared for visiting teams who cannot trail their own to western Norway.
