Shetland Boat Week 2026

Shetland Boat Week is a week-long maritime festival run by Shetland Amenity Trust, based at Hay's Dock beside the Shetland Museum and Archives in Lerwick. The programme mixes demonstrations of traditional boatbuilding and related skills with talks, boat trips, and tours of vessels and venues that are normally closed to the public. Shetland's traditional wooden boats, descended from Norse designs, are central to the week, and there are usually chances to get out on the water in one. The event is deliberately family friendly, covering contemporary boats and materials as well as heritage craft, and much of the programme is free or cheap. The setting does a lot of the work here. Hay's Dock is a restored 19th century dock, and events spread out to piers and harbours around the isles. Boat Week takes place each August, with food events such as Taste of Shetland running alongside at the museum.
