Cowes Week is Britain's original summer regatta, sailed on the Solent off the Isle of Wight since 1826, and the 2026 edition is its 200th anniversary. Racing runs from 1 to 7 August, organised by Cowes Week Limited, with around 500 boats expected across dozens of classes, from classic keelboats to modern IRC racers, most starting off the Royal Yacht Squadron line. The Solent's strong tides and shifting breeze make the racing tactical, and local knowledge counts for a lot here. For the bicentenary the town has pulled out the stops: the famous fireworks return for the first time since 2019, the Red Arrows display, a Parade of Sail crosses the Solent, and a new 1826 Stage at Northwood House hosts live music all week. Roughly 60,000 visitors are expected ashore. Even without the anniversary, the racing and the town would be worth the trip.
