Semana do Mar is Portugal's largest nautical festival, held every August in Horta on Faial in the Azores. The 2026 edition is the 49th, running from 31 July to 9 August, organised by the Horta municipal council. The sailing side is serious: the Atlantis Cup regatta brings boats across from the other islands, and 2026 also sees the Les Sables-Horta-Les Sables race for the Mini 6.50 class, with a record fleet expected in the port. Swimming, water polo, diving and fishing competitions fill Horta Bay through the week. Ashore, the ethnographic parade takes Cosmopolitan Faial as its 2026 theme and involves all thirteen parishes of the municipality, alongside folklore groups, philharmonic bands, local food and crafts on the marina front. The festival closes on 9 August with a concert by the municipal light music orchestra. Horta's harbour, a legendary Atlantic crossroads for yachts, is the right setting for it.
