Festas do Mar is Cascais's summer festival of the sea, held along the bay between the Jardim Visconde da Luz and the Cidadela fortress. The 2026 edition runs from 20 to 30 August and, as usual, everything is free. Music carries the event: more than 30 concerts across three stages, with five shows a day including one for children, on the concert nights of 20 to 23 and 27 to 28 August. The headline story this year is the return of Brazilian star Daniela Mercury, singing over the bay sixteen years after her last Festas do Mar appearance. The festival's roots are religious, and the final day still belongs to them. On 30 August a procession honours Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes, followed by the Cascais Symphony Orchestra and a fireworks display over the water to close the festival. It is a town party more than a tourist product, and better for it.
