Semana do Mar, Sea Week, is Portugal's largest nautical festival, held in Horta on Faial island in the Azores. The 49th edition runs 31 July to 9 August 2026, organised by the Câmara Municipal da Horta. Horta is the mid-Atlantic crossroads for cruising yachts, and the festival's sailing program reflects that: the Atlantis Cup - Regata da Autonomia between the islands, and the Les Sables - Horta - Les Sables regatta bringing Mini 6.50 boats across from France, with a record fleet expected in 2026. Alongside the racing there is swimming, canoeing and other water sports in the harbour, plus a heavy shore program: an ethnographic parade involving all thirteen parishes of the municipality under the theme 'Faial Cosmopolita', nightly concerts, local food and the religious festivities of Nossa Senhora da Guia. For yacht crews crossing the Atlantic in late July, timing a Horta stopover for Sea Week is an old trick.
