RORC IRC National Championship

Date: 26 August 2026 – 29 August 2026

Location: Dartmouth, Dartmouth, United Kingdom

Organizer: Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC)

The IRC National Championship is the Royal Ocean Racing Club's flagship inshore title for boats racing under the IRC rating system. For 2026 the event moves to Dartmouth, hosted by the Royal Dart Yacht Club from 26 to 29 August and run as part of Dartmouth Week. Entry requires an endorsed IRC certificate, and the J/109 National Championship is decided within the same series. Racing is windward-leeward and round-the-buoys, with target times of 60 to 90 minutes for the lead boat, so crews get plenty of starts and plenty of chances to recover from a bad one. The championship attracts a mix of professional-edged race teams and well-sailed family boats; that spread is the point of IRC, which rates them against each other on corrected time. The Dart estuary and Start Bay give a different backdrop from the usual Solent venues, which is part of the appeal this year.
