Laird Trophy Inter School Event 2026

Date: 12 September 2026

Location: Bardowie Loch (Clyde Cruising Club), Bardowie, Scotland

Organizer: Clyde Cruising Club

The Laird Trophy is an annual inter-school sailing competition run by the Clyde Cruising Club Dinghy Section at Bardowie Loch, just north of Glasgow, with the 2026 event scheduled for September. Teams of two from schools across Scotland race a one-day series in the club's own fleet of RS Feva dinghies, so no school needs to bring a boat. All competitors must be under 18 and still at school; the club supplies the sailing equipment, and crews bring waterproofs, footwear and lifejackets. The trophy itself was donated by Nigel Laird, a Commodore of the Royal Scottish Motor Yacht Club, originally for inter-club racing before the event became exclusively a schools competition. A separate prize goes to the best all-female team. Bardowie is a small, sheltered loch, which makes it a forgiving venue for newer racers while still producing shifty, tactical racing. It is grassroots youth sailing done simply and well.
