Nysted's Hajkutter Festival gathers traditional Danish sailing fishing cutters, known as hajkuttere, in the small harbour town of Nysted on Lolland. The boats were built in Denmark between 1887 and 1975, and between roughly ten and twenty of them fill the harbour during the festival. The 2026 edition runs from Friday 31 July at 14:00 to Wednesday 5 August, with free admission throughout. It is a deliberately low-key event: music on the quay, food and drink, sailing trips on the old cutters, and fish dishes cooked fresh each evening at the Hyttefadet. Most of the cutters arrive on the Monday or Tuesday, though some come earlier, so the harbour has wooden ships to look at across the whole weekend. The festival has traditionally ended with a regatta departure of the cutters across the Baltic toward Rostock. The wooden boats themselves are the draw here, and you can get aboard them.
