clyc killowen open day

Date: 15 August 2026

Location: United Kingdom

Organizer: Carlingford Lough Yacht Club

Carlingford Lough Yacht Club sits at Killowen Point near Rostrevor, County Down, on the northern shore of Carlingford Lough, the fjord-like inlet between Northern Ireland and the Republic. The club held its first meeting in 1958 and is now an RYA Training Centre and Champion Club, running racing, training and watersports for all ages and abilities. The open day is its yearly invitation to locals: taster sessions on the water, a look around the boats and clubhouse, and members on hand to explain the junior and adult programmes. Open days like this are aimed squarely at people who have never sailed, so turning up without experience is the whole point. The setting is a strong argument on its own, with the Mourne Mountains rising directly behind the club and the Cooley Peninsula across the water. For anyone near Newry or Rostrevor curious about sailing, this is the easy way in.
