Bandera de la Concha

Date: 6 September 2026 – 13 September 2026

Location: Bahía de La Concha, San Sebastián, Spain

Organizer: A.D.San Juan / La Concha Regatta

The Bandera de la Concha, Kontxako Bandera in Basque, is the most prestigious trainera rowing race there is, contested in the bay of La Concha in San Sebastián since 1879. Traineras are fixed-seat boats crewed by thirteen rowers and a cox, descended from the craft Basque fishing crews once raced home to sell their catch first. The competition runs over the first two Sundays of September, in 2026 on September 6 and 13, with qualifying heats setting the final line-ups. Finals day starts with the women's race at 11:00, contested since 2008, followed by the men's at 12:00. Tens of thousands watch from the beach, the Paseo Nuevo and hundreds of boats on the water, most wearing their club's colours. Winning this flag matters more than any league title in Basque rowing. Crews from along the whole Cantabrian coast build their entire season around these two Sundays.
