Palermo-Montecarlo Race

Date: 18 August 2026 – 23 August 2026

Location: Palermo harbour, Palermo, Italy

Organizer: Yacht Club Italiano

The Palermo-Montecarlo is a roughly 500-mile offshore race from Mondello Bay in Sicily to Monaco, organized by Circolo della Vela Sicilia with the Yacht Club de Monaco and Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. First sailed in 2005, the 2026 race is the 21st edition, starting from Palermo on 18 August with the race window running to 23 August. The course leaves boats a key tactical choice at the Egadi Islands and again around Corsica and the Strait of Bonifacio, where compression and restarts regularly shuffle the fleet. The race has drawn serious hardware over the years - the 100-footer Black Jack set the current course record - but the bulk of the fleet is Mediterranean cruiser-racers sailing IRC and ORC. It's Sicily's flagship offshore event and a fixture of the late-summer Med calendar.
