Vele d'Epoca di Imperia is one of the Mediterranean's principal classic yacht gatherings, held every two years in the Ligurian port of Imperia and marking its 40th anniversary in 2026. The programme is unusually long this time: the 12mR GP World for International 12 Metre yachts races from 29 August to 1 September, followed by the classic yacht regatta from 2 to 5 September. That puts former America's Cup class boats and pre-war classics in the same harbour across more than a week. The first edition in the 1980s drew around 30 yachts, and the event has been a fixture of the Mediterranean classic circuit ever since. Ashore, Imperia fills the quays with exhibitions, music and food, and the public can walk the docks and see the boats at close range. The racing matters, but the harbour full of varnish and cotton sails is the real spectacle here.
