The Lega Navale Italiana runs residential summer courses each year at its national nautical centre in Sabaudia, on Lago di Paola, the long coastal lake behind the dunes south of Rome. Session five of the 2026 programme starts on 3 August. The courses take children and teenagers aged 8 to 15 and mix sailing with canoeing, rowing and windsurfing over multi-day residential stays, with instruction, meals and accommodation at the centre. Lago di Paola suits beginners well: it is flat, enclosed and close to the sea, with steady breezes coming over the dune from the Tyrrhenian. Sabaudia is one of four national centres the Lega Navale operates for its summer season, which runs from June to August, and the organisation also trains 16 and 17 year olds as assistant instructors. Earlier in the 2026 season the Sabaudia centre hosted young winners of a Rai broadcasting competition for a two-week stay.
