Lake Erie Solo Challenge

The Lake Erie Solo Challenge is a 312-statute-mile singlehanded race run by the Great Lakes Singlehanded Society. Starting off North Cape Yacht Club in the lake's western basin on August 8, 2026, the course rounds Pelee Island, crosses to Seneca Shoal Light near Buffalo, and finishes at Presque Isle off Erie, Pennsylvania. Lake Erie is shallow, which means short, steep waves when the wind gets up - sailors who have raced all five Great Lakes often call it the hardest water of the lot. Finishing earns you lifetime membership in the GLSS, the same badge of honour as the society's better-known Lake Michigan and Lake Huron solos. Boats carry trackers, so shore crews and family can follow the fleet online. Entries are open to suitably prepared monohulls and multihulls with qualified solo skippers.
