Jachthaven Schipperskwartier

Location: Nijverheidskade 81a, Wildervank, Netherlands

Jachthaven Schipperskwartier is a small, volunteer-run harbour at Nijverheidskade in Wildervank, on the old Groningen canal network south of Veendam. Taken over from the municipality by local residents in 1993, it is run on a non-profit basis, which keeps rates modest, and offers around thirty berths for motor and sailing boats on some 2,000 square metres of water. Facilities are simple but free where it counts: toilets and showers, a washing machine and dryer, electricity by arrangement with the harbour master and a chemical toilet disposal point. Shops, a bakery and restaurants are within a short walk, and the veenkoloniale canals lead on towards Groningen and Drenthe.
