WorldStar 2026

Date: 26 September 2026

Location: Royal Western Yacht Club, Plymouth, United Kingdom

Organizer: Royal Western Yacht Club

WorldStar is a new round-the-world race from the Royal Western Yacht Club of England, the Plymouth club that created the original OSTAR transatlantic race in 1960. The first edition starts at 12:00 on Saturday 26 September 2026 from Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. The format is simple. Solo and double-handed entries, ordinary boats between 35 and 60 feet, racing on IRC or unrated, south around Antarctica past the three great capes and back to Plymouth. Entrants must complete a 2,000-mile qualifying passage, but there is no professional campaign structure required, and that is the pitch. The club wants sailors who dream of a circumnavigation in their own boat to be able to race one without a sponsor-scale budget or years of qualification events. It is an old-fashioned idea, closer in spirit to the early Golden Globe than to modern grand prix ocean racing, and Plymouth is the right place to start it.
