Sabani Sailing Race (Zamami → Naha)

Location: Itoman harbour, Itoman (Okinawa), Japan

Organizer: Sabani Sailing Race Executive Committee / Itoman City

Annual ~36 km open-ocean race from Furuzamami Beach (Zamami Island) to Tomari Port in Naha, Okinawa, sailed in traditional wooden Sabani fishing boats with sail and oars (eku). Held immediately after the end of the rainy season, traditionally late June, to safeguard the living heritage of Okinawa's Uminchu (sea people).
