36ª REGATA REFENO (Recife to Fernando de Noronha Race)
Date: 19 September 2026
Location: Not specified, but starts in Recife., Recife, Brazil
Organizer: CBVela
The Refeno, the Regata Internacional Recife-Fernando de Noronha, is the largest ocean race in Latin America: roughly 300 nautical miles from Marco Zero in central Recife to the volcanic archipelago of Fernando de Noronha, sailed downwind in the south-east trades. The 2026 edition is the 37th, with the fleet departing Recife on 19 September and more than 100 boats registered. The race dates to 1988 and draws everything from grand prix ORC and IRC entries to cruising multihulls, steel boats and a tourism class, twelve categories in all. The record holders finish in under 18 hours; most of the fleet takes two to three days. First boat home on elapsed time wins the Rota do Sol blue ribbon, a title the Pernambuco boat Adrenalina Pura has taken ten times. The finish is part of the prize: anchoring off Noronha's beaches after an Atlantic crossing sprint, with a week of festivities ashore.
