Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron

The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron is one of Australia's oldest and most storied clubs. Nineteen yachtsmen founded it in July 1862 as the Australian Yacht Club, and within a year the Prince of Wales had agreed to become patron of the renamed Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. The club took up its present site at Wudyong Point, Kirribilli, in January 1903, where a stone cottage, landing stage and slipway formed the first premises. From this harbourside base the Squadron has mounted several America's Cup challenges, the first in 1962 with Gretel. Members race on Sydney Harbour and offshore, and the club operates a marina at Kirribilli.
