Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club
Location: The Esplanade, Dalkeith, WA, Australia
Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club traces its history to 1897, when its first clubhouse was built at the foot of William Street on the Perth Esplanade. The name honours the Sydney Flying Squadron, whose 18 foot open centreboard skiffs with live ballast crews were known worldwide in the 1890s as the largest sail-carrying craft of their kind. Pressure on space and construction of the Narrows Bridge forced a move in 1962 to the club's present home on the Dalkeith foreshore, where a clubhouse designed by architect L W Buckeridge stands on a large block above the river. The building is recorded in Western Australia's heritage places inventory, and the club also hosts private functions.
