Lake Macquarie Yacht Club
Location: ADA Street, Belmont, NSW, Australia
Lake Macquarie Yacht Club began in 1929, when ten founders met in a tobacconist's shop in Hunter Street, Newcastle, and in 1933 members voted to build a clubhouse at Belmont for 500 pounds. The club still occupies its Ada Street site on Belmont Bay and claims to be the largest and oldest sailing club outside the Sydney metropolitan area. A comprehensive year-round racing calendar caters for competitive sailors, and a learn-to-sail programme welcomes newcomers whatever the class of boat. Ashore, the club operates a marina with moorings, the Crusoe's on the Lake restaurant, a members' bar and function rooms with views across the lake.
