Club Náutico de Cabo de Palos
Location: Puerto Deportivo, Cabo de Palos, Region of Murcia, Spain
Sailing at Cabo de Palos goes back over a century: a Club de Vela y Regatas raced here from 1914, the 'Copa Cabo de Palos' regatta was first sailed in 1933, and the current Club Nautico de Cabo de Palos was refounded in 2008. It is a non-profit club without moorings of its own; the 185-berth Puerto Deportivo below the famous lighthouse is run by the Murcia regional government, taking boats up to 15 metres behind the shelter of the headland. The club itself organises the water side of village life: a sailing and rowing school, regattas, kayaking, recreational fishing, surf and SUP, and diving on the doorstep of the Islas Hormigas marine reserve, one of Spain's best-known dive areas.
