The Ocean Race 2027 – Grand Start Alicante

Date: 17 January 2027

Location: Alicante Marina, Alicante, Spain

Organizer: The Ocean Race

The 15th edition of The Ocean Race leaves Alicante on 17 January 2027, and the opening leg is the story: roughly 14,000 nautical miles nonstop from Spain to Auckland, the longest leg in the event's history. The fleet is made up of foiling IMOCA 60s sailed by crews of four, each including at least one woman and sailors from at least two nations. From Auckland the course runs back through the Southern Ocean to Itajaí in Brazil, north to St. Pete-Clearwater in Florida, across the Atlantic to Cascais on a new transatlantic leg, then down to a finish at AMAALA on the Red Sea, a first for the race. Alicante has been the start port since 2008, and in the days before the gun the race village on the waterfront is open to the public, with the boats dockside and in-port racing to watch.
