Cairns Yacht Club

Location: 42-44 Abbott Street, Cairns, QLD, Australia

Cairns Yacht Club dates from 1908, when regional business leaders formed the Cairns Aquatic Club to foster sailing on Trinity Inlet. A merger with the Tropical Catamaran Club in 1977 produced the present name. In the club's centenary year its original waterfront clubhouse, home for a full century, was demolished for redevelopment and the club moved to new premises at the Marlin Marina. Racing covers inshore and offshore courses between Lizard Island and Townsville, and the club hosts state and national championships. Juniors learn through Tackers and youth squads, and SheSails and WAGS sessions cater for women and girls. The clubroom, boatshed and marina berths sit beside a bar and restaurant run by Salt House, with views over Trinity Inlet.
