Glénans Sailing School (Les Glénans)

Les Glénans is a French non-profit sailing school founded in 1947 by former Resistance members Philippe and Hélène Viannay, who set up a camp on the Glénan archipelago off southern Brittany to help young people rebuild after the war. It has grown into the largest sailing school in Europe, with headquarters in Paris and bases at the Glénan archipelago, Paimpol, Île d'Arz, Marseillan on the Mediterranean and Bonifacio in Corsica. The school building in Concarneau harbour receives trainees all year and is the departure point for cruises to the islands of Brittany, England and Ireland. Most instructors are volunteers, and the school's teaching manual, the Cours des Glénans, is a standard reference work in French sailing.
