Queensland Maritime Museum
Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
The Queensland Maritime Museum sits at the southern end of South Bank in Brisbane, at 412 Stanley Street beside the Goodwill Bridge. Founded in 1971, when the retired 1925 steam tug Forceful was handed to volunteers by the Queensland Tug Company, the museum grew around the heritage-listed South Brisbane Dry Dock of 1881. The dock now holds its centrepiece, the Second World War frigate HMAS Diamantina, placed there in 1981 after her final steaming from naval service. Other exhibits include the lightship Carpentaria, Jessica Watson's round-the-world yacht Ella's Pink Lady and two floors of ship models and merchant marine history. It opens Wednesday to Sunday.
