World Sailing Open Team Racing World Championships

The World Sailing Open Team Racing World Championship comes to Stockholm in 2026, hosted by Gamla Stans Yacht Sällskap with the City of Stockholm and the Swedish Sailing Federation. Racing runs from 12 to 16 August on Riddarfjärden, the stretch of water directly in front of Stockholm City Hall, which makes this one of the most watchable world championships in sailing. Twelve national teams have confirmed: Australia, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden, the UK and two crews from the USA. They race in supplied identical J/80 keelboats over more than 140 short matches, and each eight-person squad must include at least three women and three men. The event hub, the Sailors' Village at Norr Mälarstrand, holds the grandstands, race management and public areas. Team racing rewards boat handling and tactics over raw speed, and at this level it is fast, aggressive and easy to follow from shore.
