Transpac 2027 – Race Start

Date: 6 July 2027 – 18 July 2027

Location: Los Angeles, Los Angeles, United States

Organizer: Transpacific Yacht Club

Transpac is one of ocean racing's oldest fixtures, sailed from Los Angeles to Honolulu since 1906 and run biennially by the Transpacific Yacht Club. The 2027 race is the 54th edition, covering 2,225 nautical miles from the Southern California coast to the finish off Diamond Head. Three staggered starts are set for 6, 8 and 10 July 2027, with slower boats leaving first so the whole fleet converges on Hawaii around the same time. That compression is deliberate: it creates a real race to the line and means finishers arrive to a proper welcome rather than an empty dock. The course is mostly downwind once boats clear the coastal transition zone, and days of surfing in the trade winds are why crews come back edition after edition. Entries range from grand prix programs chasing the Barn Door trophy to family-run cruiser-racers. Registration for the 2027 race opened in 2026.
