The Ocean Race 2027 – Cascais Stopover

Cascais hosts the fourth stopover of The Ocean Race 2027, the 15th edition of the fully crewed round-the-world race that began life as the Whitbread in 1973. The IMOCA fleet is expected from 26 May 2027, arriving off the Portuguese coast at the end of a new 4,500-nautical-mile transatlantic leg from St. Pete-Clearwater, Florida, the first Ocean Race leg ever started from the Gulf of Mexico. Cascais sits 30 kilometres west of Lisbon, with a marina that has hosted world championship regattas and an open Atlantic coastline that usually delivers proper breeze. The stopover includes a public race village where the 60-foot foiling monohulls are docked between legs. The restart is scheduled for 6 June, when the fleet sets off on the final leg toward the Mediterranean, through the Suez Canal, and on to the Grand Finale at AMAALA on the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia.
