Shimoda Black Ship Festival 2026 (87th edition)
Date: 15 May 2026
Location: Shimoda harbour, Shimoda, Japan
Organizer: Shimoda City
The 87th Shimoda Black Ship Festival (Kurofune Matsuri) commemorates Commodore Perry's 1854 arrival and the opening of Shimoda Port. Three days of memorial ceremonies, US Navy 7th Fleet and JMSDF brass-band parades, sea-lantern ceremony in Shimoda Harbour and a maritime fireworks display turn the port town into a celebration of Japan-US maritime history.
