Shimizu Minato Festival 2026

Date: 7 August 2026 – 9 August 2026

Location: Japan

Organizer: Shimizu Minato Festival Executive Committee

The Shimizu Minato Festival is one of Shizuoka City's biggest summer events, held each year over the first Friday to Sunday of August around JR Shimizu Station and Hinode Pier at Shimizu Port. In 2026 it runs 7 to 9 August. The centerpiece is the Minato Kappore So-Odori, a mass street dance along Satsuki Street with around 20,000 participants over two evenings. It is a strange and cheerful thing to watch, whole company departments and school groups dancing the same steps for hours. The port side of the festival includes maritime activities around Hinode Pier, and the final Sunday evening closes with a marine fireworks display launched from pontoons on the water, usually 19:30 to 20:30. The main parades and the fireworks are free. The festival draws over 700,000 visitors across the three days, so trains into Shimizu get crowded from late afternoon.
