The Lipton Cup is San Diego Yacht Club's invitational challenge regatta, raced for a trophy donated by tea magnate Sir Thomas Lipton, and the 2026 event is the 111th running. Twelve invited yacht club teams race a round robin in matched J/105s, rotating boats after each race so nobody can blame the equipment. Racing takes place on South San Diego Bay, east of the Coronado Bridge, on short buoy courses that reward clean boathandling in traffic rather than straight-line speed. The 2026 regatta runs 28 October to 1 November, with crew weigh-ins and registration on 29 October and racing from 30 October through 1 November. Club pride is the whole currency here. There is no prize money, just more than a century of names engraved on one of American sailing's older interclub trophies, and the yacht clubs take it seriously.
