Whitsunday Sailing Club
Location: 11 Ocean Road, Airlie Beach, QLD, Australia
Whitsunday Sailing Club has run sailing out of Airlie Beach since 1971 from a clubhouse on Ocean Road that looks straight over Pioneer Bay to the islands. This is the club that, with Don Algie, launched Airlie Beach Race Week in 1990; the regatta is now one of Australia's biggest annual sailing festivals and still finishes on the club's doorstep. Racing continues year-round with twilight races most Wednesday afternoons and offshore races roughly twice a month, while juniors come through Tackers and Start Sailing courses off the beach in some of the most protected water on the Queensland coast. Visitors will find a dinghy harbour, moorings, rigging and storage, plus a bar and bistro on the waterfront terrace.
