Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron
Location: Pier Road, St Kilda, VIC, Australia
Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron traces its history to 1876, when it was incorporated as the St Kilda Sailing Club. A royal warrant followed in 1924, and the present name was adopted in 1961 after amalgamation with the St Kilda 14-Foot Sailing Club. The clubhouse stands on the St Kilda foreshore, twenty minutes from Melbourne's city centre, and a 250-pen floating marina was built in St Kilda Harbour in 2014. Racing runs on Port Phillip on Saturdays, Wednesdays and some Sundays, and the squadron hosts the annual Australian Women's Keelboat Regatta. Training ranges from junior weekend programmes to adult keelboat and dinghy courses, with a casual SailPass scheme for first-timers. Swing moorings and dinghy storage are available.
