Modern Sailing School & Club

Modern Sailing School & Club was established in 1983 in Sausalito and teaches on San Francisco Bay from Marina Plaza Harbor on Marinship Way, with a second Sausalito base at Clipper Yacht Harbor added in 2026. A Berkeley Marina location opened in 2023 when the company acquired Inspire Sailing and folded it into the Modern Sailing brand. The school is an American Sailing Association affiliate and a three-time winner of the ASA Outstanding School of the Year award. Courses run from basic keelboat through advanced cruising certifications, plus racing clinics, US Coast Guard license prep and private instruction. The fleet includes tiller-steered J/24s, cruising boats in the 30 to 32 foot range and catamarans, available to members for charter.
