Maritime Museum of Tasmania
Location: Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
The Maritime Museum of Tasmania occupies the former Carnegie library building at 16 Argyle Street in central Hobart, a short walk from the Constitution Dock waterfront. Its galleries trace Tasmania's deep maritime story, from whaling and shipbuilding on the Derwent to the island's trading ketches and fishing fleets, spread across the Carnegie gallery and ground floor displays. The museum cares for historic vessels including the 1867 trading ketch May Queen and the yacht Westward, and runs the Semaphore Cottage in Princes Park, Battery Point, as an interpretive centre for Hobart's early signalling station. It opens daily except Christmas Day from 9am to 5pm.
