Wednesday Night Pursuit Race

Every Wednesday evening, Dubai Offshore Sailing Club runs a pursuit race off the Jumeirah coast. The format flips normal racing on its head: slower boats start first, faster boats chase, and in theory the whole fleet converges at the finish. Handicaps are worked out under IRC and NHC, so anything from a cruiser with a family crew to a stripped-out racer can join the same start sheet. Racing gets underway around 5pm and wraps up by 7pm, which makes it an easy after-work fixture rather than a full weekend commitment. DOSC has been running club racing from its Jumeirah base since 1974 and the Wednesday pursuit is its most sociable series - most crews stay on for dinner at the club afterwards. Visiting sailors can usually find a ride by asking at the bar or contacting the sailing office.
